Set of four Romanian beauty guides, 1969-1983. An interesting bit of beauty culture from 20th century Romania while it was still under communist rule and a satellite of the USSR. The sixties marked the beginning of a relaxation of the regime's strict control of individual freedoms, and a growing interest in popular culture at large that only increased in the following decades. This is demonstrated in these beauty manuals, which include traditional folk beauty recipes for care of the skin and body as well as more progressive mod illustrations of beauty looks, flippy sixties and seventies hairstyles, dance-inspired exercise diagrams, and more.
