The Genius of Charles James, 1982. A fantastic overview of the life and works of Charles James, published to accompany the 1982 show at the Brooklyn Museum, the first major retrospective of his work. James was one of the most talented designers of the 20th century, and the Brooklyn Museum's owns America's most extensive collection of his gowns and studio archives. The Brooklyn Museum lent many of these to the recent Charles James show at the Met, who did a fantastic display of x-rays of the gowns, revealing the incredible architectural structures beneath necessary to support his silhouettes.
